City kabaddi body in dock
Chandigarh, November 28 The team was selected on November 26 to represent the city in the Junior Boys and Girls National Kabaddi Tournament at Haridwar from November 28 to December 1. Sports Authority of India kabaddi coach Lakhbir Kaur declined to sign the final selection list of the boys’ team, charging that two players - Ishwar Singh and Balraj - did not belong to the city. Talking to the TNS, Lakhbir Kaur said: “When I checked the final list of the team prepared by the association officials, I found two players hailing from outside of the city. As I refused to sign, one of the officials of the association gave me assurance that the proof of residence of these players would be provided to me. But to my surprise, nether did I get any proof nor did they (the association official) bother to get my sign on the list before sending the team to Haridwar.” According to the coach, the team could not be sent without the sign of a coach under the rules and regulations. Lakhbir Kaur, who took both boys and girls preparatory camps at the sports complex, Sector 42, also alleged that besides Balraj and Ishwar, another player, Sandeep, was included in the camp. But he was not included in the team. General secretary Harjinder Singh said both players stayed at Sector 36 as paying guests and the association had the proof of residence being verified by the police. “We have also taken in writing from players that if their proof was not found genuine, they would not be given any certificate,” said Harjinder Singh. |

ICL good for budding players: Klusener
Panchkula, November 28 “Certainly, it will be a great challenge for Kirsten to coach Team India, which is doing very well of late. The team can benefit from the experience of the all-rounder,” he said after practising at the nets at the Tau Devi Lal Cricket Stadium, Sector 3, here. Like most others international stars, the South African, who will represent Kolkata Tigers led by Craig MacMillan, was of the view that the ICL would be a successful venture. Budding cricketers could make the most of it by sharing the field with world-class cricketers, he felt. “There are a lot of talented young cricketers back home. I saw the same passion in some youngsters here. Probably some of these will go on to become next Sachins and Dravids,” he added. On the issue of provision of facilities to international stars, Klusener felt they were happy with the arrangements. “All of us know that the organisers could not get good grounds for their inaugural tournament. Still they have been providing with good facilities,” he added. “India is a fantastic country and I have enjoyed each visit here. The ICL tour will be no exception,” summed up Klusener. |
