Maya lays stones of Rs 4,392-cr power projects

Determined to put the state on the road to self-sufficiency in power by the end of her term, Chief Minister Mayawati today inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of mega power projects costing about Rs 6,168 crore.

Mayawati said under the 11th Five Year Plan an action plan for the generation of 10,000 MW was being prepared which would require an investment of Rs 60,000 crore.

This would, however, provide direct employment opportunity to 10,000 persons and indirect employment to another 30,000 persons, she said.

She said her government had given the top priority to make the state self-sufficient in power. Today, she dedicated projects worth Rs 1,776 crore to the state as well as laid the foundation stone of power projects worth Rs 4,392 crore.

The fourth unit of 210 MW Paricha Thermal Power Project in Jhansi that she dedicated to the state today was started by her in 2002. The first and second units of the Paricha Thermal Power Project would start generating electricity in July 2009 and November 2009, respectively.

Similarly, the first and second units of Harduaganj in Aligarh district would be completed in October 2009 and February 2010, respectively. With the completion of these projects there would be no scarcity of electricity in the state during the coming years.

On 21 November, the Mayawati government had signed an MoU with the NTPC for the establishment of a joint sector power project of 1,320 MW generation capacity, which would be established at Meja in Allahabad.

Mayawati also dedicating power sub-stations of 132 KV and 33 KV worth Rs 26 crore. Out of these sub-stations, two 33 KV sub-stations are situated at Faizabad, while two 132 KV sub-stations are situated at Puwaya in Shahjahanpur and Gangoh in Saharanpur.
