Kolkata, December 2
Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen has relented and surrendered to the fundamentalists, but still there is hardly any hope for her immediate return to Kolkata, her second homeland from where she was “evicted” on November 22.
Some of Taslima’s friends and well-wishers here claimed that as desired by the writer, they had conveyed to the Chief Minister that she was now planning to return to Kolkata. But there is no indication either from the CPM or the official circles that Taslima would be brought back here in the near future, said Taslima’s friends.
On the contrary, Taslima has been advised to keep in touch with home department officials for getting further directions from them about her future movements.
Neither the Chief Minister nor CPM secretary Biman Bose made any statement about the writer. Home secretary Prasad Ranjan Roy also has no information about her future movement.
But he said if Taslima was sent back to the city, the state government would make necessary arrangements for her protection. However, some of the Imams, who had demanded her deportation, informed the Chief Minister and the CPM leadership that they were still sticking to their demand since they were not satisfied with her regret.
