Chandigarh, December 4
Mr R.S. Talwar has taken over as President of the Tribune Trust. He was elected unanimously by the members of the Trust at their meeting in New Delhi on Monday.

Mr Talwar has filled the vacancy caused by the death of Mr Justice R.S. Pathak. He was the senior-most Trustee, having joined the Tribune Trust in 1986.

Soon after taking over as President, Mr Talwar paid rich tributes to his predecessor. The members of the Trust observed two minutes of silence in memory of the late Mr Justice Pathak.

Mr Talwar has been one of the most upright and independent-minded civil servants, who has held several posts in the Government of India and the Punjab Government, where he became Chief Secretary.

Educated at Government College, Lahore, from where he obtained an M.Sc (Honours) degree in physics with distinction, Mr Talwar had a distinguished academic career.

He joined the Royal Air Force as an officer in 1941. At the end of World War II, he was selected for the civil service and assigned to Punjab.

After a distinguished service spanning over 36 years, Mr Talwar retired from service in 1977. All along he held the reputation as an officer of unimpeachable integrity.
