Trade unions disrupt rail traffic

Several organisations representing farmers, industrial workers and employees of the PSEB today disrupted rail traffic on the Ludhiana-Ferozepur section at the Model Gram railway station against the privatisation move being pursued by the government. Trade union leaders said the agitation would be intensified if the government did not scrap the policy of privatisation and withdraw the Electricity Act, 2003, among other things.

Study: 5,600 farm accidents every year
But only 21 pc get monetary aid

A parking lot in the upmarket commercial hub of Feroze Gandhi Market (D zone) was today leased out for Rs 80.25 lakh through open bidding for a period of one year. The reserve price was Rs 60 lakh and six bidders participated.

Students’ strike fails to move authorities

As many as 100 students of the College of Agricultural Engineering of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) are on strike since November 26 to protest against authority’s decision to deduct 10 marks each of the students, who did not take their mid-term exams, held in September-October. The agitating students alleged that such decision would destroy their career.

Govt to set up sports clubs in Punjab villages: Gabria

With a view to promote sports, the state government has planned to set up sports clubs in all the 12 thousand villages of the state and grants of Rs 50 thousand each would be given to these clubs every year. This was stated by Hira Singh Gabria, minister for tourism and cultural affairs, while addressing the sportspersons on the prize distribution function of the North Zone Handball Championship at PAU here today.

Annual athletics meet at BCM

Excitement and enthusiasm marked the three-day long annual athletic meet of the kindergarten section at BCM today, wherein tiny tots budding with energy participated with full zest. Manager, school managing committee, Capt V.K. Sayal, was the chief guest. He inaugurated and declared the meet open after taking the salute from the contingents of the nursery, LKG and UKG students along with their teachers.
