City jail refuses to house accused
Ludhiana, December 6
The Ludhiana Central Jail has refused to accommodate Bhavdeep Singh, one of the accused in the RDX haul case, sighting security reasons.
The accused was remanded in 14-day judicial remand by the local court yesterday.
Punjab has 3rd highest number of undertrials
Ludhiana, December 6
Jails across the country have a capacity of about 2.46 lakh inmates, but the number of prisoners, including undertrials, at present is 3.58
lakh. Out of those lodged in jails, some 2.37 lakh are undertrials, and about 19,000 have been languishing in jails for over two years.
Assault Case
Probe against SDM shifted to SP (D)

The SSP, R.K. Jaiswal, has marked the inquiry against SDM (East) Jugwinder Singh Grewal, who allegedly assaulted his wife on November 29, to SP (D) Gurpreet Singh Toor. Earlier, Sukhchain Singh Gill, SP (city) was probing the matter.
Woman done to death by driver

The Khanna police has registered a case against one Gurmukh Singh and his friend Minto for having allegedly killed Baljit
Kaur, wife of Gurmeet Singh of Mangli Khas village, in whose house he worked as a driver.
Power situation worsens

Power cuts ranging between three and four hours
every day on urban feeders have thrown life out of gear. The power supply in the rural areas of the district is worse with people having to stay without power for eight to 12 hours every day.

Waterless residents threaten agitation

Accusing civic body authorities of failing to provide basic amenities to residents of the Old Sabzi Mandi area, consumers have threatened to launch an agitation if water supply, that had been interrupted for five days, was not restored soon.

MCPI(U) assails Badal govt
Ludhiana, December 6
The local unit of the MCPI(U) today criticised the Punjab government for extending the benefit of fixing red lights atop vehicles to members of the SGPC, in a press note issued.
General secretary Jagjit Singh Lyallpuri said the government move to allow red beacons was unjust and illogical.
