Target groups sans medicines for 4 mths

This World AIDS Day, UT administrator Gen S.F. Rodrigues (Retd) had called for a “crusade against AIDS”. How that is to be done is the question: certainly not without medicines. A survey of eight HIV/AIDS targeted intervention (TI) projects in Chandigarh, reveals that these projects have for the past four months not received any supply of medicines for the groups they are targeting.

Though pasting posters on the walls is not allowed under the Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 1976, but this was ignored in the election fever.

371 cartons of liquor seized
Chandigarh, December 7
The crime branch of the Chandigarh police arrested a Ludhiana resident for allegedly carrying 371 cartons of liquor from near the CTU traffic lights here. A second person managed to flee.

Vikas with his mother Blue baby needs financial aid
Chandigarh, December 7
Vikas, a three-year-old child, has not been able to get treatment for a heart ailment for the last one year as his family of labourers could not arrange Rs 75,000. The doctors at PGI said Vikas was a blue baby. He was suffering from TOF (tetrology of fallot). The children suffering from the disease may fail to gain weight, face retarded growth and physical development, including other complications, said the doctors.

UT holidays notified

The administration has notified the holidays for the next year. On these days the offices of the Administration will be closed.

GMCH-32 not keen on rotational headship
Chandigarh, December 7
The implementation of rotational headship introduced by the adminstration at Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, is unlikely to be implemented. The newly appointed director principal Dr Raj Bahadur said the introduction of the system had led to create the acrimony among the heads of departments and other staff members and he would try to remove the misunderstandings and apprehensions emerged before or after the administration passed the orders to introduce the system.

Former IG Dhaliwal dead
Panchkula, December 7
Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, a retired IPS officer and former police chief, Himachal Pradesh, passed away here today. He was being taken to PGI when he breathed his last. He was 81 and is survived by two sons and two daughters.

Students enact ‘Aaj Ka Bharat’

Students of Anee's School celebrated their fifth annual function here this evening. The programme started with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by chief guest Rajpal Singh, member of the Indian Hockey Team. Principal Navdeep Verma read out the school report. The play “Aaj Ka Bharat” beautifully portrayed Gandhi’s dream of an independent India. The function concluded with a vote of thanks by director Aneet Goel.

Majestic start to Pinjore heritage fest

The three-day Pinjore Heritage Festival opened at Yadavindra Pinjore Gardens today. Tourism minister Kiran Choudhry was the chief guest. Student killed in accident
Ambala, December 7
Amanpreet Kaur, a Class X student of DAV Public School, Ambala City, was killed this morning when the two-wheeler she was pillion riding, was hit by a tractor trolley. The vehicle was being driven by her uncle.

The triplets, who were born to Kuldeep Kaur of Bhanukheri, near Ambala, at a private nursing home on Friday morning.

SDM SL Bhumbak today ordered the exhumation of a body from its grave for a probe into the cause of the victim’s death. On November 26, the police had begun investigating the death of 19-year-old Akbar Ali who was found dead under mysterious circumstances on November 24.
