Heated exchanges among SAD councillors

The first business meeting of the municipal corporation’s general house witnessed heated exchanges between two factions of the ruling SAD councillors and a stern warning from mayor Hakam Singh Giaspura to the elected representatives after Simarjit Singh Bains of the SAD levelled allegations of corruption against commissioner Vikas Partap.

7-yr RI for killing wife

Additional sessions judge Gurbir Singh has sentenced Jagjit Singh of Khurshaidpur village, Sidhwan Bet, to seven-year rigorous imprisonment on charges of killing his wife. A fine of Rs 2,000 has also been imposed on him.

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s birthday tomorrow is an event of special joy for wax sculptor Chander Shekhar Prabhakar who has made a wax statue of the CM as a tribute to the political leader.
The life size statue, which gives an illusion of a “real Badal”, took this artist nearly 4 months to complete.

500 Nihangs seek govt’s help

A delegation of about 500 Nihangs from the district gathered at the deputy commissioner’s office and handed over a representation urging the government to stop Bhai Balbir Singh from occupying the powerful seat of the Nihang sect.

Students call off strike

Agitating students of the College of Agricultural Engineering at Punjab Agricultural University today called off the strike after a round of discussion with Prof M.S.Kang, the vice-chancellor.

Excitement and enthusiasm marked the three-day long Annual Athletics Meet of kindergarten section at BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School grounds in Shastri Nagar here today. Students attired in myriad coloured dresses, danced to the tunes of western and folk beats and mesmerised the spectators with their rhythmic steps.
