Senior national kabaddi meet Favouritism alleged in selection of player Akash Ghai Tribune News Service
Chandigarh, December 8 Many kabaddi players were upset over the selection of a Government College, Sector 11, player, alleging that he did not know even the basics of the game. “For him, who seemed to be a favourite of some office-bearer of the association, the other talented players of the camp, who have played many state and national tournaments, are being ignored”, lamented a kabaddi player on condition of anonymity. Interestingly many players, who got selected in the final team for nationals, are not happy with the way the final selection took place. “Though we are part of the team, the selection procedure was definitely not fair. Earlier also, two outside players were fielded in the local team during the junior nationals last week. This time, too, the association has been behaving arbitrarily, ignoring the talented and experienced players for the sake of novices”, said a kabaddi player while talking to TNS on condition of anonymity. One left out player Randeep Singh, who has been part of many nationals, including school nationals, junior nationals and senior nationals, also alleged that the association was not fair in selection. “Even the training in the preparatory camp held at Police Lines was just a formality. The coaches used to come late more than one hour from the scheduled time”, resented Randeep. On the issue, SS Randhawa, president of the Chandigarh Kabaddi Association, said, “The team was selected by our selection committee. But definitely I will look into the matter and try to solve the issue.” The team will leave the city on Monday morning. |

Men in khakhi feel overworked
Kharar, December 8 "After every 15 days or so, from 2 pm to 9 pm, we are ordered to check traffic chaos, wrong parking and remove away temporary obstacles that fall in the way from Kharar to Kurali," said a cop posted in Kharar. This cop was unaware that he was guarding roads for Punjab Governor Gen S.F. Rodrigues’ motorcade. This VIP duty not only ends by 9 pm but stretches on to even midnight at times. "It becomes difficult to stay on guard. Fog makes visibility near difficult and the job tougher," added another cop deployed at Khanpur village round about. Its not only the police personnel that are left on tenterhooks but even the doctors, paramedics and civil administration staff of Nangal, where Rodrigues goes fishing. Last time he visited Nangal was around 22 days ago. Under the Z plus security, maximum police force is deployed at every intercepting road, near bus stands and on the turn of villages falling on the route. These personnel are deployed from city, sadar and police posts falling under jurisdiction of Kharar, Rupnagar and Nangal police. "The entire force is diverted towards this VIP duty, wherein Governor moves for personal interests. No matter what happens, our priority is to oversee security arrangements. With Chief Minister, Prakash Singh Badal's visit scheduled for tomorrow for S.A.S Nagar, we are completely occupied. Two VIP visits in two consecutive days’ leaves us totally drained with just a handful cops," added a high rank official from Kharar police. Meanwhile, SP (detective) of Rupnagar police Ashish Chaudhary added that for Z plus security system there is a standard operation procedure. "VIP duties are a part of our job and it's a routine," he added. |
