1,400 lawyers cast their votes

Responding to apprehension of disturbance during the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana poll here today, the police successfully managed to keep it a low key peaceful affair. The returning officer had declared Ludhiana to be sensitive booth.

Mayor warns councillors against ‘weaving plots’

The mayor has warned a few councillors who are engaged in harming the morale of the municipal corporation employees. In a press note issued here today, Hakam Singh Giaspura, said: “The respect of the corporation house will not be allowed to be compromised.”

Players against use of stadium for Kirya ceremony

BJP leader Lala Lajpat Rai, who died recently, had never used the government machinery for personal use, but the “Kirya ceremony” of the former BJP leader is being organised at a multipurpose stadium in front of Guru Nanak Stadium. A large number of dignitaries, including the Chief Minister and high-profile BJP leaders, are expected to attend the ceremony.

BCM cadets attend integration camp

Harkirat, Damanpreet, Dishant, Shivam and Amandeep, all students of BCM Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh Road, Sector 32 A, Ludhiana, brought laurels to the city by winning prizes during their participation in the National Integration Camp in Shri Hari Ram Ashram, Pataudi (near Gurgaon).
MC conducts demolition drive

For residents of ward No. 14, life is hell

Residents of Gobindgarh village near the link road, connecting the National Highway No. 1 with the Chandigarh Road, are virtually living in the hell. The streets of the village, which partly falls under ward No. 14 within the municipal limits and the rest under the village panchayat, have got choked, sewers are overflowing and foul-smelling stagnant water has literally made it impossible for the residents to move outdoors.

One dead, two hurt in accident
Ludhiana, December 8
A 52-year-old man was killed in an accident that took place near the Samrala Chowk on Thursday night when the driver of a speeding patrol tanker lost control over his vehicle near Beant Nagar. Old man’s grandson who was accompanying him sustained serious injuries and is recuperating at a private hospital. Hare Ram, a 25-year-old pedestrian, also sustained serious injuries.
Boy elopes with cousin; father beaten to death
Ludhiana, December 8
Father of a teenager was beaten to death on Friday night by his relatives because his son had eloped with his cousin at Bajra village. The incident occurred when the irate relatives cornered Manmohan Singh, the hapless father, and mercilessly beat him to death.

Batra, who died in a road accident at Machhiwara earlier this week. A meeting of the body was held at Hotel Nanda on Thursday, under the presidentship of
