need to be more vigilant: Experts

The shocking murder of a class VIII student in a Gurgaon school by his two class mates has made the local school authorities to sit up and take precautionary measures for avoiding such incidents. Many schools have started frisking the bags of students and are evolving plans to avoid such incident on their campuses.
The American style of campus shooting, relatively less heard in
the country, has spread shock waves with the school authorities
immediately swinging into action to beef up the vigil. The fears
of a similar incident in the city is not unfounded.

NRI murder: DIG orders fresh probe
Khanna, December 12
Giving a new twist to the murder of Manjit Kaur, an NRI, who was allegedly murdered by her husband Jagpaljit Singh, the DIG has ordered a fresh inquiry to establish whether the woman was murdered or had died due to a road accident.
Raid on medical store
Ludhiana, December 12
In a drive launched by health authorities against drug abuse, a team of drug enforcement officials conducted raid on a medical store in Haibowal Kalan here last evening which yielded large quantity of addictive and narcotic drugs.
Ranike: Insurance of farm animals must
Ludhiana, December 12
Gulzar Singh Ranike, minister of animal husbandry, dairy development and fisheries, Punjab, has stressed on the need of insurance of animals. He said 12,000 animals were insured last year and the state government targets to insure more than 15,000 animals this year. The state government had spent Rs 1.5 crore for this purpose.

Taking notice of alleged unconcern of management committees of certain private schools and colleges of the area, about safety of the students availing their transport service, the civil administration has warned them against violating the norms prescribed by the authorities and courts.
Fill posts of headmasters; say teachers

Accusing successive governments of ignoring interests of employees of state run schools, office-bearers of various trade unions have urged the authorities to consider hundreds of master cadre teachers for promotion to headmasters.
Samples of milk products, other eatables taken
Ludhiana, December 12
Teams of the district health administration took nearly two dozen samples of milk, dairy products, bakery products, spices and other eatables from different parts of the city today in the course of an anti-adulteration drive, launched on the directions of the state government.
Teachers hold protest rally

As many as six teachers union of the district conducted a protest rally in front of deputy commissinoner office here today.
The rally was headed by the member of the Democratic Teacher Front (DTF). The teachers union accused the government for providing free village land to the Bharti Foundation for constructing a school.

Restrictions imposed on rallies, processions
Ludhiana, December 12
Sumer Singh Gurjar, Deputy Commissioner, exercising powers under Section 144, CrPC, has passed an order, as an emergency measure, to prohibit the assembly of five or more persons, holding processions rallies in the areas of Ludhiana district. This order comes into effect from December 8, 2007, to January 1, 2008.
