Badal: Cong responsible for Punjab ills Fatehgarh Sahib, December 25
Speaking to mediapersons after paying tributes to the younger Sahibzadas of Guru Gobind Singh on their 303rd martyrdom day, Badal said there was no point raising any issues when both the state and the union government were having convivial relations. He said the union government had conceded to the request of the state government to extend the existing Sri Guru Gobind Singh Marg from Anandpur Sahib up to Hazoor Sahib. Thanking the union home minister for grant of extension of the road, Badal said he would be holding a meeting with Chief Ministers of other states tomorrow in New Delhi to finalise the modalities for the project. Earlier, while addressing an impressive gathering at the political rally outside Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib, Badal said SAD leaders had to put in a lot of effort to get the MSP of wheat increased by Rs 250 per quintal. Blaming the Congress for the troubles faced by the Punjabis, the Chief Minister said incidents like the 1984 riots had left a permanent blot on the minds of Sikhs. He accused the Congress of pushing the state into huge debts. Speaking on the occasion, acting president of the SAD Sukhbir Singh Badal said no other community in the world had made sacrifices as great as the ones made by the Sikhs and the Sikh Gurus. He reiterated the promises of surplus power, revamp of the irrigation system in the state and setting up of three Punjab institutes of sports. He took the opportunity to warn the bureaucrats to desist from ignoring Akali workers. Earlier, the Chief Minister and his son paid obeisance at the gurdwara along with president of the SGPC Avtar Singh and other senior party leaders. Badal was presented a siropa by the SGPC. |
