Tension over akhand path in Shakarpura
Our Correspondent

Fatehabad, December 25
Tension has mounted at Shakarpura village on the outskirts of the district bordering Punjab after a confrontation between functionaries of the Guru Granth Sahib Satkaar Sabha and followers of the Dera Sacha Sauda over holding ‘akhand path’ at the residence of a dera follower.

A heavy police force had rushed to the village to avoid the situation taking an ugly turn and the village elders were trying to sort out the matter through negotiations.

According to reports, the village sarpanch Bal Kishan Kamboj, who is follower of the Dera Sacha Sauda, organises ‘akhand path’ of Guru Granth Sahib at his residence every year.He had organised the ‘akhand path’ as usual and its ‘bhog’ is to take place on Wednesday.

Members of the Guru Granth Sahib Satkaar Sabha today reached the village and objected to it. They asked the village sarpanch to either come to Sikhism fold by accepting Siropa or return the ‘Guru Granth Sahib’ to the village gurudwara.

The villagers, who had earlier resolved not to allow any outside interference in the religious matters, also came in support of the sarpanch. Members of the Satkaar Sabha had threatened to take the ‘Guru Granth Sahib’ forcibly in case the sarpanch did not accept their conditions.
