Punjab panchayat elections soon

Panchayat elections in Punjab will be held soon. However, this time the sarpanches will not be elected direct but through elected panches. Rural development and panchayat minister Ranjit Singh Brahmpura stated this today.

He said dates for panchayat elections, otherwise due in the last week of January, would be announced after a meeting with the state Election Commissioner. Zila Prishad and block samiti elections are also due to be held in six months. The government may think to hold elections to panchayats, zila prishads and block samitis on the same day.
