Punjab hockey eves ready to take on Chattisgarh today

The girls of the host team, all geared up during the warm up session, a day ahead of the opening ceremony, brought forth the Chak De memories to ones mind. Punjab is pitted against the Chattisgarh team on the opening day of the 55th Rakshak Senior Women National Hockey Championship at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium, Burlton Park, here on Friday.

Bikramjit Singh Khalsa ‘Skill centres in state to impart vocational training’
Jalandhar, January 31
Chief parliamentary secretary, technical education and industrial training Bikramjit Singh Khalsa, on a visit to the Punjab Technical University, said new skill centres would be set up in the state, one is each tehsil, for imparting short-term certificate courses in carpentry, hotel reservation, computer applications, masonry and welding.

Young shooter aims for the skies
Jalandhar, January 31
Rubber guns had been his favourite toys since he was barely six years old. His childhood fascination transformed into a passion. A class X student of Ambika Modern School, Ajitesh Kaushal now boasts of winning two gold medals in the junior category at the recently held international air competitions at Hungary and Germany. He secured the first position in the air pistol 10-metre event in Hungary. Owing to this achievement, he was included in the first eight players in the senior category.

Eklavya School held its annual sports meet recently where Arjuna awardee and hockey player Baljeet Singh Saini was invited as the chief guest.

Students take video production lessons at FTII
Jalandhar, January 31
The second-year students of journalism and mass communication of regional campus, Ladhewali, Jalandhar, recently attended a five-day “video production” workshop at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune. The workshop was held from January 6 to 11.

4 theft cases solved with 7 arrests
Jalandhar, January 31
The police arrested seven persons and claimed to have solved four cases of theft which took place in different areas under Lambra police station during the past several months.

House tax: MC seals 3 more shops
Jalandhar, January 31
Adopting a strict attitude against the house tax defaulters, the municipal corporation today sealed three more shops in Model House here today.
