Award
: Pritam Singh Rahi, president of the Likhari Sabha here has been conferred the first Surinder Verma Samriti Award which will be given away at a function organised by Saheed Bhagat Singh Institute in Sirsa. 

BATHINDA
Opposed
: The Gurudwara Thermal Colony Prabhandak Committee and Khalsa Action Committee president Surmakh Singh Sidhu, opposed the meeting, allegedly organised by Dera followers after the death of a ‘Premi’, slated for February 1 at the Thermal Colony. In a meeting, it was announced that the order of the Akal Takht Sahib would be enforced at any cost and the district administration would be held responsible for any untoward incident that takes place.

Demand for train stoppage: Residents of Tapa and its adjoining stations through a memorandum have demanded stoppage of some trains, which run between Sriganganagar and Ambala routes, including 4526, 4731 and others, sources in the railway said. 

Bus overturns, 19 hurt: Nearly 19 employees of a pesticides factory were injured when the bus carrying them overturned at Dabwali road here o on Tuesday morning. The bus was on the way to the Industrial Growth Centre on the Mansa road from Model Town.

Riot victims’ rehabilitation
: President of the All-India Sikh Students Federation Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad has said the federation would make efforts to get grants for the rehabilitation of victim families of the anti-Sikh riots not only from the Centre but also the state government. 

SAD unit hails Sukhbir as chief: The installation of Sukhbir Singh Badal as president and Parkash Singh Badal as patron of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) brought cheers in the district party office here on Thursday. The party workers, along with their leaders, assembled in the office under the leadership of their district president Surinder Singh Bhulewal Rathan and greeted each other. The SAD leaders hailed installation of Sukhbir Singh Badal as the party chief.

Elected
: The CPI held its conference here on Wednesday where around 21 members of the tehsil committee were elected. Daljeet Singh Mansahia was elected the tehsil secretary while Harjeet Singh Ralla and Jagseer Singh Gehle were elected as deputy secretaries of the Mansa tehsil unit.

Awareness programme
: The Regional Centre for Entrepreneurship Development and the Nabha Foundation organised awareness programme on opportunities for girls at L.B.M college for girls in the town. Paramjit Singh, principal consultant, RCED, Chandigarh wanted girls to learn computer and develop communication skills with studies for better placement opportunities.

Mourn meet
: The Akhil Bharatiya Hind Suraksha Youth Sangram Democratic Parishad organised “path of Sukhmani Sahib” here to mourn the death of three school kids who died in a road accident here on Friday as well as to pray for the speedy recovery of two injured children - Omanshu and Parteek. ADC Pritam Singh Johal was also  present.

ASI killed in mishap
: Avtar Singh an ASI in the CID wing of the Punjab Police, was killed in an accident on the Sangrur-Bhawanigarh road near Ghabdan village on Wednesday night. Avtar Singh was coming from Chandigarh when his car and a truck collided near Ghabdan village.

Dialysis unit
: IVY hospital launched an advanced dialysis unit with renowned nephrologist Dr Raka Kaushal joining the hospital as a consultant nephrologist and renal transplant physician, here on Thursday. Gurtej Singh, CEO, said previously Kaushal was working with Silver Oaks Hospital, here as a consultant nephrologist since October 2004. She has also worked as a consultant nephrologist with Shekhar Hospital, Lucknow.

AMBALA
Incomplete services
: The secretary of Ambala BJP, K.L. Sehgal said the patients were not getting proper medical service in civil hospital of Ambala Cantt. There was a shortage of specialised doctors in the hospital and serious patients were referred to the PGI, Chandigarh. He demanded the vacancies of the doctors should be filled up soon. He also demanded that the government should construct a new building of the hospital, equipped with an operation theatre and blood bank. 

Awareness camp: Haryana State Legal Service Authority organised a legal awareness camp on the judicial complex in Ambala City, today. District and Sessions Judge B.M. Bedi and Civil Judge senior division R.N. Bharti briefed people about free legal aid. Information related to female foeticide, PNDT Act, and legal rights, was distributed. Bharti said any person having an annual income less than Rs 50,000 per annum could get free legal aid from legal  Authority.

Lok adalat member
: Dr Kamal Bhaskar, a local medical practitioner, has been nominated as a member of the Permanent and Continuous Lok Adalat (Samjhata Sadan) of this district. Dr Bhaskar has received a communication to this effect from the Haryana State Legal Services Authority (HSLSA). He is already a member of the Juvenile Justice Board for this district.

2 die in mishaps
: Two persons lost their lives in two separate road mishaps in the district. Joginder (26) hailing from Jalalpurkalan village was crushed to death by an unidentified vehicle while he was crossing the road near the village on Wednesday night. In another incident, a youth identified as Rajvir was killed after his motorbike hit a tree on Wednesday night near Jamni village.

Quiz competition
: The Inter-Zonal Quiz Competition of Kurukshetra University will be held on February 7 at DAV College, Pundri (Kaithal). Principal of the host college Dr Subhash Tanwar informed that this year more than 300 colleges were likely to participate in the competition. He said the quiz competition was an annual feature of the Youth and Cultural Department of the university in which all affiliated colleges of the university participate.

REWARI
Bull’s funeral: Several hundred villagers, including women, participated in the funeral procession of a panchayati bull at Khori village, 10 km from here, on Wednesday. The procession was taken out in the accompaniment of the beating of drums while women chanted paeans. The bull was given a burial in the open ground adjoining a village temple. 

SONEPAT
Notices to rebel Cong MLA
: In compliance with the directions from the Speaker, Haryana Vidhan Sabha, Raghubir Singh Kadiyan, SDM Gohana, Jaideep K alongwith tehsildar Gohana Rajesh Khialia went to the residence of rebel Congress MLA Dharam Pal Singh Malik and affixed the copy of fresh notices sent by the Speaker, to his house in Gohana town on Wednesday. In the notices, Malik has been asked to give his replies by February 7.

Injured in clash: Local government college SCA president Ravi Chandel was inured in a clash with a local resident on Thursday evening. Police sources said Chandel was injured after Vicky allegedly hit him with a stone, when he entered into an altercation over some issue with Vicky. Vicky is working at a shop at Anu Chowk near the college.
