Maoists yesterday killed
15 persons, including 14 policemen, and took away a huge
quantity of arms and ammunition in a planned attack on three
police stations, an outpost, a police training school and
armoury in Orissa’s Nayagarh district.

violence in educational institutions, a XIIth standard student was shot
dead allegedly by two of his classmates at a school near here today.

identification parade (TIP).
Four
members of a family were killed and two seriously injured at an
unmanned level crossing at Alipur village, about 10 km from Ropar,
today. The mishap took place when the auto-rickshaw in which the
victims were travelling was hit by a train coming from Chururu in
Himachal Pradesh.

undertrials escape Ludhiana, February

Seven undertrials, all
belonging to the Bangala tribe and involved in dozens of cases
of robbery and murders, made a daring escape from the Central
Jail late tonight. The undertrials escaped when the Kapurthala
police was handing them over to the jail authorities.

Voluntary
retirees from forces entitled to disability pension: SC Chandigarh, February 16
In an order which would benefit a
large number of armed forces personnel, the Supreme Court has ruled that
disabled soldiers who opt pre-mature retirement at their own request are
entitled to disability pension. Defence personnel with disabilities
attributable to or aggravated by military service are eligible for
disability pension. The government, however, had been refusing payment
of disability pension to personnel who had left the forces voluntarily
on compassionate grounds.
