Big bucks
at play
It’s
a game that will run on money, high stakes, star players and
glamour. The BCCI-backed Indian Premier League is all set to
roll out high-powered cricket that could possibly change the
nature of the game. But will spectators pay for this form of
cricket, asks Abhijit Chatterjee
It
is something akin to
the mahurat of a Bollywood film. The stage has been set. The
team owners are ready, the superstars are in place (with their
pockets overflowing even though the shooting is yet to start),
and the infrastructure is perfect.
Europe
reigns at Oscars
Hollywood took a
backseat at the 80th Academy Awards which saw European stars
walk away with most of the honours, says Ervell
E. Menezes
This
time it was the
European stars who scored over the Hollywood ones at the Oscars
night or the 80th awards of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts
and Sciences. France’s Marion Cotillard, who won the Best
Actress (though now they call them actors) Oscar for her
depiction of the legendary Edith Piaf in La Vie En Rose,
was in ecstasy as she received the award, and British actor
Daniel Day-Lewis knelt on one knee to take the Oscar from last
year’s winner Helen Mirren (also British), who tapped him on
the shoulder with the Oscar.
Return
of Star Wars
George
Lucas is reportedly
planning to take the first three or four episodes of his new Star
Wars animated television series and combine them for a
full-length animated theatrical feature. According to
TheForce.Net and Action-Figure.com, the animated theatrical
feature will be released in September, reports Moviehole.
