Amid the political storm over the Indo-US nuclear deal, the government today unveiled the draft of the contentious India-specific safeguards agreement, which envisages support for Indian effort to develop a strategic reserve of nuclear fuel to guard against any disruption of supply over the lifetime of reactors.

IAEA Safeguards Text: Arms expert claims some flaws
Washington, July 10
A leading US Arms expert has picked holes in the draft nuclear safeguards accord submitted by India to the IAEA saying there are some clauses, which may raise questions on the effectiveness of the nuclear watchdog to monitor the countryís civilian nuclear programme.

External affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee is in an embarrassing position with the government giving the go ahead to the IAEA to circulate the text of the draft India-specific safeguards agreement among the 35 members of the global nuclear watchdog and subsequently making the document public.

Governorís rule imposed in J&K

Jammu and Kashmir was tonight brought under Governorís rule and the state assembly dissolved, three days after Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad resigned following the Amarnath land transfer row.

CBI files affidavit against Maya in SC
New Delhi, July 10
In a bid to tighten the noose around Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, the CBI today filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court seeking permission to chargesheet her in the disproportionate assets case. The CBI in its affidavit has stated that there is sufficient prima facie evidence to prosecute the BSP supremo under the Prevention of Corruption Act for allegedly amassing assets beyond her known sources of income through corrupt means.
