Lucknow, January 2
Arrested Aurraiya MLA Shekhar Tiwari has reportedly confessed his crime of killing PWD engineer Manoj Kumar Gupta, said ADG (Law and Order) Brijlal today. The stick with which Gupta was beaten and the electric wire used for
giving him shocks have also been recovered.
Speaking to the media, the ADG said the Aurraiya police has applied for extending the police remand of the accused MLA by another five days. The police is also searching for MLA’s wife Vibha Tiwari who is reportedly absconding.
The ADG said she was allegedly involved in destroying evidence at the scene of the crime immediately after the murder. “However, her exact involvement in the commitment of the crime is still under investigation”.
The MLA’s wife is believed to have visited the slain engineer’s GAIL Vihar colony official residence in the early hours of December 24, soon after her husband had dumped a seriously injured Gupta at the Dibiapur police station. Her mission was reportedly to remove evidence of the crime like bloodstains.
According to the ADG, the accused MLA has made a clean breast that the cause for doing away with the PWD engineer in the brutal manner was to teach him a lesson for not carrying out his orders, obliging his preferred contractors and passing bills without verification of the works.
Once again the ADG reiterated that there was no substantiation of attempts to extract money from the slain engineer for Chief Minister Mayawati’s birthday bash being the cause of the murder.
However, the ADG refused to comment on the fact that Aurraiya BSP district president Yogendra Dohrey, alias Bhatia, was also present at the time of the murder and is an accused in the case. He is evading arrest following which the police have attached his property. The murder became the reason for the ruling party disbanding the entire district unit.
The police has still not recovered the fourth black Scorpio involved in the crime nor has it laid its hands on the then SHO of Dibiapur Hoshiar Singh who has since been terminated for his involvement in the murder.
