Fogged out in Delhi

New Delhi, January 6
After a day's respite, fog once again returned to the capital today hitting air and rail traffic with 50 flights, both domestic and international, being delayed and 18 others cancelled even as 40 trains were running behind schedule.

Flights were delayed by up to four hours at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport this morning as the general visibility dropped to below 50 metres while runway visibility was 125 metres, below the 150 metres minimum that is required for planes to take off.

Most of the morning flights to Coimbatore, Bangalore, Mumbai, Shimla, Lucknow, Aurangabad, Jaipur, Chennai were either cancelled or were delayed, sources at the airport said.

About 12 domestic and international flights were also rescheduled today, they added. As many as 40 Delhi-bound trains were running several hours behind schedule as fog continued to affect rail services for the ninth day. — PTI
