Free medical aid for freedom
fighters: The UT administration has approved the proposal to extend free medical aid to all the freedom fighters residing in the city. The decision has been taken by the Administrator in pursuance to a direction issued by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in a PIL filed by an
advocate. The requisite notification would be issued soon, sources
said. It was learnt that wife of the Administrator, Jean Rodrigues, had expressed her desire to seek an updated and correct list of freedom fighters and their families, so that she might personally visit their residences to express
gratitude

Car looted: Three youths allegedly looted an Innova car at gunpoint here on Monday. The owner of the car told the police that the incident took place when he had gone to Sector 56 to pick up his customers. He said they dumped him in some deserted area and fled away with the car. JHAJJAR
Youth strangled to death: A youth, Jitender Kumar, of Mehandipur village was allegedly strangled to death in Dabauda village here on Sunday. Old enmity is believed to be behind the murder. The police has registered a case of murder against four youths on the complaint of deceased’s father Rajbir. Rajbir said Jitender had gone to fields on Sunday morning. Ajit Singh Yadav (42), a resident of Mundhia Kalan village, was killed on the spot when the motorcycle he was riding on reportedly collided with an unknown vehicle on the Delhi road here on Monday. In another incident, a teenager, Aman Yadav (16), of Ladhuwas village was killed on the spot while his companion Anil Yadav (15) of Saharanwas village was injured when the motorcycle they were riding on reportedly collided with a jeep on the Rewari-Mahendergarh road on Sunday. Yadav, father-in-law Om Prakash Yadav and mother-in-law Sunita Yadav, all residents of Karnawas village, on charges of harassment for dowry and causing hurt.
Kavita, who was allegedly thrashed by her in-laws, was admitted to the local Civil Hospital for treatment on Sunday. The police recorded her statement, following which a case under Sections 498-A, 323, 406 of the IPC was registered against her in-laws. Kavita got married to Sunil about three years ago.

Labourer killed: A labourer of the state Public Works Department was hit by a private vehicle near Bakani on the Chamba-Bharmour highway, about 18 km from here, on Sunday evening. He died on the spot. According to police sources, the deceased was identified as Khinnu Ram, a resident of nearby Bakani village. A case has been registered and Sanju of Bilaspur, driver of the vehicle, has been arrested. KULLU
Voters’ list: The voters’ list for the Assembly constituencies of this district; 22-Manali, 23-Kullu, 24-Banjar and 25-Ani have been compiled and were available at the Election Registration Officer (Sub-Divisional Magistrates) of the respective constituencies. Deputy Commissioner M Sudha Devi said the voters of these constituencies might check their names and photographs in the lists. The voters could apply for any amendments in the prescribed forms. Vivekananda Jayanti: The Swami Vivekananda Jayanti was celebrated at the Dev Sadan here on Monday. Award for BHUTTICO: The Bhutti Weavers Cooperative Society (BHUTTICO) has been conferred the fourth National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) Biennial Award for 2008 for “cooperative excellence”. The award, which carries a cash reward of Rs 50,000 is given by the NCDC to one primary cooperative society in every state once in two years. Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar will present the award to the society at a special ceremony to be held in New Delhi on January 15.

Jawan’s wife commits
suicide: Wife of an Army jawan allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at residential quarters in Nagrota area on the city outskirts, 13 km from here, police sources on Monday said. A woman identified as Sunit Devi (27), wife of SP Singh, resident of Allahabad was found hanging on Sunday with a ceiling fan. The police, however, shifted the body to the hospital for autopsy and has registered a case. Meanwhile, reason behind this extreme step could not be ascertained, while investigations were in progress.

Winter secretariat work begins: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has given instructions to start the functioning of the secretariat here from Tuesday after the government began working from Jammu, its winter capital. Omar’s instructions came after people complained of facing immense difficulties in reaching Jammu to get their grievances redressed. The Srinagar-Jammu Highway remains closed in winter due to heavy snowfall. The winter secretariat will start working from Tuesday in the valley to monitor the functioning of the administration, besides addressing civic problems confronting the people in the region, official sources said. The secretariat will be supervised by Cabinet ministers on a rotational basis.1 killed, five injured in mishaps: One person was killed and five others were injured in road accidents overnight, official sources said on Monday. hospitalised. One dies in accident: Mohammad Amin Qureshi died on spot when he was hit by a tipper near Kalgari(Uri) in Baramulla district on Monday. In another accident, five persons were injured in a head-on collision between an Ambassador car and a Tata Sumo near Beijbehara on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway. Those injured have been hospitalised, the police said. Woman commits suicide: A woman committed suicide in central Kashmir district of Badgam by consuming poison, official sources said on Monday. Zeeba, wife of Mohammad Jaffar, allegedly consumed some poisonous substance in Badgam. However, she was immediately taken to the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences at Soura, where she died. It was not immediately known why she took this extreme step. Leopard attacks villager: A villager was attacked and critically wounded by a leopard in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, official source said on Monday. A leopard suddenly appeared from the woods at Chattargam village, Tral, about 35 km from here, when some villagers were walking in the area. However, before the villagers could do anything, leopard attacked and injured Tajan Singh. The injured was, however, rescued by other villagers and later shifted to the hospital.
