Woman found dead, husband booked: The police has registered a case under section 306 of the IPC against one Jagga Ram of village Chanankhera after recovering the body of his wife Bimla Rani (32) from a sub-canal near Dhaani Kadaka Singh on Tuesday, sources said. As per information, Jagga Ram had allegedly forced his wife to stay with her parents on January 28 as he wanted to marry someone else even after 12 years of the first marriage which had blessed him with three children also.

Compulsory retirement: The Punjab State Medical and Dental Teachers Association on Tuesday decried compulsory retirement of Joint Director Dr P S Kooner of Government Medical College, Patiala after completion of 58 years of service. The association also condemned the “hurried” action against hospital employees following the fire in the neonatology unit, which claimed lives of five infants.

Tributes paid to martyr: The Balidan Diwas of Om Parkash Jyani of the BSF, who had laid down his life while fighting the militants in Manipur, was observed at his native village Pakka Saharana on the Hanumangarh-Sriganganagar road on Tuesday. Legislator Vinod Kumar and district collector Naveen Jain jointly unveiled the statue of the martyr. BSF commanding officer R.S. Dahiya was joined by Induvar Dubey of the District Sainik Welfare Board, Daya Ram Jakhar chairman of Zila Parishad, Captain Het Ram Suthar and Santosh Jakhar, Sarpanch of the village in placing a wreath and garlands on the memorial. Jyani's wife Ramti Devi along with other war widows including Narinder Kaur, Manjit Kaur was honoured on the occasion.

Mansa
Woman gets life term: The District and Sessions Judge Bhupinder Singh awarded life imprisonment to a woman in a murder case and also imposed penalty of Rs 5,000. Mansa police had registered a case against Jagraj Kaur, wife of Gurcharan Singh, a resident of Mansa.

Survey for mid-day meal: To ensure proper supply of mid-day meal in the schools of the district, deputy commissioner Kumar Rahul asked the officials to conduct a survey. Following the instruction, SDM Mansa Gurjeet Singh Pann surveyed different villages including Randitewala, Gele and Nangal Khurd. The SDM did not find any irregularity in the supply of Midday meal.

Assumes charge: Karan Deep Chaudhary has assumed charge of member distribution of Punjab State Electricty Board (PSEB) here on Wednesday Chaudhary has experience in distribution, transmission, enforcement, generation and stores. He played a role in introducing reforms in the PSEB such as single window system of redress of consumer grievances in 2001.

BKU meets PSEB chief: A delegation of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Lakhowal group) met Harinder Singh Brar, chairman, Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB), here on Tuesday and discussed power supply and issues related to agricultural consumers like pending tube well connections registered up to December 31, 1990, under the general category. The PSEB decided to supply seven-hour power for farm sector.
