Mumbai, February 9
An Air India (AI) aircraft flying to Delhi
from here today narrowly missed a collision with a helicopter belonging to the
Indian Air Force that was part of President Pratibha Patil’s entourage.

Custodial
deaths up in Punjab
New Delhi, February
9
There has been “huge
dramatic” increase in the number of custodial deaths in
Punjab, the Supreme Court was informed today. Senior counsel
Abhishek Singhvi told the Bench headed by Chief Justice KG
Balakrishnan Punjab had filed affidavit, reporting 80 deaths in
custody in 2006 and 63 in 2007.

Some key police officials,
posted in violence-affected areas during 2002 post-Godhra riots
in Gujarat, are under the scanner of Special Investigation Team
(SIT), which has arrested a senior officer in connection with
