Stolen bike traced: The police has managed to trace the motorcycle, which was lifted near the Lawrence road police post on the night of February 28. The police had declared an alert after the vehicle was stolen and laid naka at various vantage points and chowks of the city. The motorcycle belonged to Manmohan Singh Dhillon.

Hoshiarpur
60 huts gutted: More than 60 huts of migrant labourers were gutted in the fire that broke out at noon in Phuglana village today. Two fire engines of the municipal fire brigade rushed to spot and after struggling for more than one and a half hour controlled the fire. According to police sources, no loss of life has been reported in the incident.

Rs 1.9 lakh looted: Three Esteem car-borne youths took away Rs 1.9 lakh on pistol point from three employees of a stone crusher Harwinder Singh, Daljit Singh and Kewal Singh at Bhallewal village last night. On pistol point they took away Rs 1.90 lakh lying in the chest of the room and three mobile phones from the employees and fled.

Appointment: The Punjab government has appointed Ashwani Sharma, general secretary of the state unit of the BJP, as chairman of the district planning committee, Gurdaspur. This was disclosed by Satish Mahajan, district BJP chief, at a meeting of the party leaders held here on Monday.

Reprieve for suspended SDO: A local court today directed the Municipal Commissioner to release subsistence allowance of suspended SDO (electrical) AK Dadwal. The CBI had arrested Dadwal, JE Gyan Chand and Ramesh Chand from the MC office on charges of taking bribe from a contractor on May 30, 2008. Tarlochan Singh, a contractor, had undertaken work for installation of streetlights.

Water rationing begins: Residents in Mohali will get water at full pressure for four hours on every alternate night to fill overhead tanks while the day supply will remain normal. Full pressure water supply would be reportedly given from 4 am to fill overhead tanks. Phases I to VII have been divided into two zones and each zone would be provided water at full pressure every alternate night.

213 LPG cylinders stolen: Burglars broke in a cooking gas refill godown of the Food and Civil Supplies at Damtal and decamped with 213 cylinders of the Indian Oil Corporation. The Indora police registered an FIRon Monday. So far no clue could be found in the theft.

5 cattle die: Five cattle were charred to death and three others were burnt when a fire broke out in three cowsheds at Hatli village under Fatehpur block of Jawali subdivision on Monday. The local administration has disbursed a relief of Rs 2,000 each to the affected family.

Chamba
House gutted: A double-storeyed house was burnt to ashes in a devastating fire which broke out on Sunday in Rainpani village in the district. Report said cattle were also tied in a room, but were saved with the help of villagers. However, a tentative loss of over Rs 7 lakh had been estimated. Officials of the Revenue Department an immediate relief of Rs 20,000 to victim Praveen Kumar.

3 kg charas seized: The Narcotics Control Bureau seized 3 kg of charas from the Tawi river on Monday. Official sources said the contraband worth Rs 45,000 was concealed in a bag and had been buried in the riverbed at an isolated place. Acting upon information the NCB sleuths confiscated it. However, no arrest has been made.
