New Delhi, April 3
BJP’s prime ministerial candidate LK Advani had his revenge today when he accused Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of denigrating the highest office in a democracy, referring to how the PM was not contesting the Lok Sabha elections.
“The PM’s office is the highest office in a parliamentary democracy. But Manmohan Singh has denigrated this office,” said the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate on the event of the party’s manifesto release, almost repaying Manmohan Singh who had lambasted him on the day of Congress’ manifesto release.
Advani further slammed the Congress and the PM for shying away from his call of a national debate before the elections. He said he did not understand why anyone (the Left) should see, in his urge to engage in a debate with the PM, any fondness for a presidential form of government. “I don’t see why any course of action which strengthens democracy and enables political leaders to communicate with voters should be understood like that. I stand by my call and in fact, if it leads to a two-party system, so be it.,” Advani said, crediting the BJP with converting India’s single-party dominance to bipolar polity.
