Kasab planned to attack Malabar Hill
Tribune News Service

Mumbai, April 18
Mohammad Ajmal Amir Iman, alias Kasab, the lone terrorist taken alive after the November 26 terror attack case in Mumbai, and his associate Abu Ismail, who died in the operation, had plans to strike at VIP locality Malabar Hill area.

According to special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, the plan could not take off as only Ismail knew the details and he was killed in a police encounter. Ismail had told Kasab that he would reveal the plan about Malabar Hill - the VIP locality where bungalows of Governor, Chief Minister and other important Maharashtra ministers are located - after reaching there but before they could reach their destination a police team intercepted their car and Ismail was killed in police firing, the prosecutor told Judge ML Tahilyani.

Meanwhile, the prosecutors in the November 26 terror attack case have lined up 109 witnesses, including experts from the FBI and cyber experts from around the world, against Kasab.

Nikam said on dock with Kasab were Fahim Ansari and Sabauddin Ahmed, who had carried out terror attacks in different parts of the country.

Nikam said prosecutors had whittled down the number of witnesses from around 1,820 people. He said 1,820 witnesses had been cited in the case but only 109 potential witnesses would be examined.

Providing details about the prosecution's case, Nikam said five global positioning system instruments recovered from various venues of the terror attacks like the Taj, Oberoi and Nariman House had provided investigators with valuable clues. These devices had provided extensive data on the sea and land routes taken by the terrorists to reach Mumbai, according to the official.
