Srinagar, April 30
PDP patron and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and party president Mehbooba Mufti today did not cast votes in the home constituency of Beijbehara, part of the Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency of south Kashmir.

While Mufti Sayeed was busy campaigning in the Srinagar constituency that goes to the polls in the fourth phase on May 7, Mehbooba was out of station.

Meanwhile, NC president Farooq Abdullah denounced Mufti Sayeed and Mehbooba for not casting vote. “What can they expect from others when they themselves did not cast votes,” he said in a statement.

He said their action of not casting vote once again revealed the double face of the PDP leadership, which always indulged in doublespeak.

PDP candidate Peer Mohammad Hussain had yesterday complained to the Election Commission regarding the deployment of large contingents of SPOs on poll duty in the constituency ahead of the polling. The state government had drawn these SPOs from all districts of the Kashmir valley apparently with the objective of using them for some purpose, he stated in the complaint. “As these SPOs are neither fully trained nor armed to deal with any law and order situation, there seems to be some suspicious intention behind the government’s move of deploying them in the Anantnag constituency on poll duties in such large numbers”, the letter stated.
