Gangrape
Accused minors medically examined
Panchkula, May 2
Finding nothing substantial in the medical examination report of an 8-year-old girl who was allegedly raped by four minors, the police got the accused medically examined at the General Hospital here today. A medical test was also conducted on the girl to ascertain her age as the family had no proof of her age.

Cable theft delays Shatabdi
Chandigarh, May 2
The shocking case of theft of wire of overhead extension (OHE) disrupted rail traffic and caused the Kalka-Delhi Shatabdi to be held up between Panipat and Karnal today. Reportedly, the entire section of the Delhi division was disabled owing to the theft. Several trains were delayed and cancelled.

Consumer Courts
Compensation not easy to come by
Chandigarh, May 2
Educational institutes, airlines and government organisations are in the list of defaulters for not paying compensation as directed by the consumer courts. Among the prominent defaulters are ICICI Bank, Citi Bank and SBI credit card while the airlines against whom execution applications were filed are Ethopian Airlines and Indus Airways.

City-Morinda rail link
Electrification to end by June
Mohali, May 2
Travelling by train between Chandigarh and Una will become faster by June as work on the electrification of the 45-km Chandigarh-Morinda section of the track is nearing completion. At present, trains on this section are being run on diesel. Around Rs 10 crore is being spent on the electrification.

A 27-year-old woman reportedly committed suicide along with her five-year-old daughter by jumping into the Bhakhra River, near Ganda Kheri village, here today.

3 booked for kidnapping minor sisters

The police today booked three persons for allegedly kidnapping two minor girls from Preet Colony at Dera Bassi. The accused have been identified as Ravi Kumar, Anil Kumar and Arvind Kumar, all residents of Preet Colony and hailing from Bihar.

UK resident died of clot in windpipe
Mohali, May 2
The postmortem report of Alan George (35), who died in a road accident at Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, revealed that the cause of his death was blood clotting in windpipe. The postmortem was conducted today by teams of doctors in a civil hospital, Phase VI.
