Industrialists oppose duty on steel import
Ludhiana, May 2
The Apex Chamber of Commerce and Industry has strongly assailed the proposal of the Director General Safeguard to impose 25 per cent safeguard duty on import of steel items of HR coil, sheets and strips. This will be applicable on the import of the HR coil, whose price is below $ 600 dollars per tonne. The duty will remain in force for 200 days.

Shahi Imam condemns atrocities against Sikhs in Pakistan
Ludhiana, April 2
Shahi Imam Maulana Habib-ur-Rehman Sani has condemned the Taliban for its activities against Sikhs residing in Orakzai and for levying “jaziya” on them. Talking to mediapersons here today, Shahi Imam said: “Islam doesn’t allow anyone to take “jaziya” forcefully. The activities of demolishing houses in Orakzai by Taliban have brought a bad name for Islam.”

"A comedian always sees the things upside down," says world famous comedian Papa CJ. He tickled the funny bone of city residents during his performance organised by the Ludhiana Sanskriti Samagam this evening. "I chose the profession of a comedian to make fun and to have a large number of fans all over the world. And I did it. It is a good life but you have to have tenacity, perseverance and self-belief. Man jumps in front of train, dies

A man reportedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a train today morning. He has been identified as Buta Singh (56), a resident of Hathoor village, near here. He jumped in front of the Ferozepur-bound 4629 passenger train coming from Moga at around 7.30 am.
