Tribune News Service

Zirakpur, May 15
A day after being arrested by the Delhi police in two separate cases of cheating and fraud, Dr AS Bindra, father of Olympic gold winner Abhinav Bindra, continued to be under observation at the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh.

The arrest was made after the Metropolitan Magistrate, Patiala House, Delhi, issued a non-bailable warrant against Bindra, who was accused of cheating Apple Finance to the tune of Rs 4.31 crore and IndusInd Bank of Rs 5 crore. The industrialist had defaulted in repaying loans and his cheques had bounced.

The Delhi police today moved an application for transit remand to take Dr Bindra to Delhi. After the Delhi police moved the application, the Civil Judge, Derabassi, went to the GMCH to verify the condition of the industrialist. “He has to be declared medically safe before he is produced in the court at Delhi,” pointed out a police official. He will now be produced at a Delhi court on May 17.
