As numbers swell, success rate slides Chandigarh, May 20 The results for the 2009 examination for CBSE’s Panchkula region, which comprises the states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Chandigarh was declared today, along with those of the Ajmer and Chennai regions. As has been the general trend over the past few years, girls out-performed boys this year too by a healthy margin. The pass percentage for girls was 86.24 per cent while that for boys was 77.56. The overall pass percentage was 81.20. The overall pass percentage, which dipped from 83.57 per cent in 2007 to 80.80 in 2008, saw a slight increase this year. The total number of students that appeared this year was 1,04,873, up from 78,441 in 2007 and 90,434 in 2008. As far as the performance of schools is concerned, the pass percentage of government schools this year was 78.88. It was 80.94 last year and 82.43 the year before. Kendriya Vidalayas too have shown a downward trend in pass percentage from 93.46 per cent in 2007 to 91.65 in 2008 and 90.98 per cent this year. After seeing a dip last year, the pass percentage of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas at 94.52 per cent, was the highest among various categories of schools this year. It had slipped from 93.87 per cent in 2007 to 91.14 per cent in 2008.Independent schools have shown a barely perceptible increase in pass percentage from 80.57 per cent last year to 80.88 percent this year. It was 83.62 per cent in 2007. CBSE’s Joint Secretary at Panchkula D.R. Yadava said that the details of the results were also available online at CBSE’s websites www.cbseresult.nic.in and www.cbse.nic.in. Marks sheets would be dispatched to schools next week. The results of remaining regions, including Delhi, Guwahati and Allahabad would be announced on May 22. This year a total of 6,37,578 students, including 2,64,248 girls, had appeared for the Class-XII examinations from all across the country and abroad. |
