Vienna Backlash Tribune News Service Chandigarh, May 28 After three days of trouble in the region, shops and other commercial establishments reopened and majority of the train and bus services have been restored in the state. However, some educational institutions remained closed in the disturbed areas. The State Board for Technical Education has postponed JET entrance test, which was to be held on May 30, in wake of the disturbed situation in the state. The test would now be held on June 6. The Dera authorities issued advertisements in various newspapers requesting their followers to maintain peace and harmony in the state. While para-military forces have been sent back to the barracks, the state police continue to patrol sensitive areas in Jalandhar, which was worst hit by the violence. The state police is also gearing up for the possibility of violence flaring up again when the dead body of the slain guru is brought back to Punjab sometimes by the end of this week or early next week. The night curfew, which is currently on from 6 pm to 6 am and in some places from 8 am to 6 pm, might be relaxed further but will not be completely withdrawn till the situation in the state is back to complete normal, said a Home Department official. He added that the SSPs in had been asked not to leave station till further orders. |
