Pillai is new Home Secy

The Prime Minister’s Office has cleared the name of Commerce Secretary G K Pillai for the post of Home Secretary. The 1972 batch Kerela cadre IAS officer will take the formal charge on June 30 when present incumbent Madhukar Gupta retires.

The name of 59-year-old Pillai, who has been a joint secretary in the home ministry, was cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

For the post of commerce secretary, there are three incumbents, but it is likely that the name of Rahul Khullar, Disinvestment Secretary, will be cleared. Name of Revenue Secretary PV Bhide, IAS officer of1973 batch, is likely to be finalised for the post of Defence Secretary.
