Lucknow, June 21
Trouble once again loomed large over the fate of the newly elected BJP MP from Pilibhit, Feroze Varun Gandhi, as well his party as the forensic reports today confirmed that the voice in the hate speeches delivered during the election campaign were indeed his.
Armed with Chandigarh-based forensic science laboratory reports, the state police is contemplating not to waste any more time in taking action in each of the three criminal cases pending against Varun.
According to the Pilibhit police, three criminal cases were registered against Varun. The first registered on Match 17 relates to the anti-Muslim speech delivered by him at a public rally in Barkhera village of Pilibhit district on March 8.
The second case was registered over the same incident on the orders of the Election Commission that had taken a serious view of that speech. The third case was registered on March 19 for yet another hate speech delivered by the young leader at the Desh Nagar locality in Pilibhit town on March 7.
Three evidence exhibits had been sent to the Chandigarh lab for analysis that included a compact disk, a mini videocassette that was recorded at Barkhera and a microchip, which contained a voice recording from Desh Nagar.
The FSL in Chandigarh has sent its report to the District Magistrate of Pilibhit confirming that the controversial CDs without a doubt contained the voice of Varun Gandhi.
According to the investigating officer, sub-inspector Mani Ram, the FSL report received by the district police has confirmed that the voice in the tapes is that of Varun Gandhi and the CD is not doctored.
Varun had bought time during the election campaign by alleging that the speeches were doctored and part of a larger political conspiracy against him and his party.
The UP government had invoked the NSA against him on March 29 after violence broke out in Pilibhit during his high-profile surrender in the district courts. After spending three weeks in Pilibhit and Etah jail, Varun was released on parole on SC orders after he furnished a guarantee to restrain from such speeches.
The state government revoked the NSA on May 14 after the Supreme Court turned down the BSP government’s request to reconsider the decision of the Allahabad High Court state advisory board refusing to uphold the BSP government’s decision to invoke the NSA against Varun.
