Ludhiana, June 21
Tehsildar Major GS Benipal (retd), who was stripped and assaulted by Akali leaders in his office two days ago, has said he would take his fight against corruption to a logical end even at the cost of his life and government job.

He is waiting for his fractured leg to heal before he knocks at the doors of the Punjab and Haryana High Court to seek justice for state exchequer that has suffered losses on account of fake stamp paper scam. In his renewed fight, he has found a mission of his life, Major Benipal said here today.

Recuperating at DMC Hospital here, Major Benipal, while sharing with The Tribune his disgust for the system, said he was disillusioned at the way the issue was being handled.

‘‘The judiciary has given seven-day police remand to councillor Kamaljit Singh Karwal. But, what will the police do? It provided AC room to him last night also and extended a VIP treatment to him. What can anybody expect? They could not recover my licensed revolver from him,’’ he said.

He added that he was not even going to care for his government job in his fight against the system. ‘‘I am not dependent on this job for my bread and butter. I will go to any length to ensure that the perpetrators of the stamp paper scam are brought to book,’’ he said.

Stating that he had worked for 10 years in the Revenue Department of the state, but had never felt helpless, Major Benipal said he was always patted for initiatives taken in the right direction.

‘‘After the attack on me, I have grown stronger. They can kill me, but I will not keep silent,’’ said the retired Army officer, who already had a problem in his right leg where he was hit again and developed a fracture.

After taking charge of the department in 1999, Major Benipal has worked at Dhuri, Fatehgarh Sahib, Khamano and Ludhiana. But, Ludhiana was the only place posing a challenge to him.

‘‘I have accepted it. They could not have done worse to me. They have already done what they could,’’ he said.
