New Delhi, June 24
Veteran Congress leader and former Union Law Minister Hans Raj Bhardwaj has been appointed as the new Governor of Karnataka. He will replace Rameshwar Thakur, who has been posted to Madhya Pradesh. Senior Congress leader and former Assam Minister Devanand Konwar has been appointed as the Bihar Governor.
The 72-year-old Gandhi family loyalist, HR Bhardwaj, was a criminal lawyer and started his career with the Tees Hazari court in New Delhi. He rose to fame with the Golcha murder case and Vidya Jain murder case.
Rameshwar Thakur, a Gandhi Family loyalist, was the member of the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Trust in Amethi.
Thakur was the Governor of Karnataka, former Governor of Orissa from 2004 to 2006 and Andhra Pradesh from 2006 to 2007. He was transferred to Madhya Pradesh for the remainder of his gubernatorial term on June 24. Thakur takes over from Dr Balram Jakhar on the expiry of the latter’s term on June 30.
