Two Indians assaulted in Oz

Melbourne, June 28
In a fresh case of assault in Australia, two men reported to be Indians, were allegedly attacked and struck with a beer bottle by two juveniles in Sydney today. The attack took place in Sydney’s CBD early this morning after the men got into an argument that escalated into a fight, the New South Wales police said.

The police did not reveal the identity or nationality of the victims, but TV channels said they were Indians.

The two juveniles have been arrested and charged for the assault in which they allegedly struck the two men on the head with a glass beer bottle.

The boys, a 16-year-old from Peakhurst and 17-year-old from Hurstville, were both charged

with two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of others, the police said. The victims, both aged 20, were taken to Sydney Hospital where they were treated for bruising and minor lacerations, before being discharged.

They were conditionally bailed to appear in a Children’s Court on July 20. Meanwhile, at the scene of the attack, a number of items were located and seized for forensic examination and the police also spoke to witnesses.

The police said detectives were investigating possible links of the incident to the alleged assault of a ‘bouncer’ at a nightclub in Goulburn Street yesterday. — PTI
