dilution in stand: PM

Even as the BJP slammed the
India-Pakistan joint statement, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh
today rejected the charge that New Delhi had diluted its
position vis-a-vis Pakistan by delinking the resumption of the
composite dialogue process from action against cross-border
terrorism.

Rapist father
can’t escape death
Chandigarh, July 17
A father, who rapes his daughter
before eliminating her, won’t escape death penalty. The Punjab and
Haryana High Court today ruled a case where a father after raping his
daughter killed her, would fall within the parameters of rarest of rare
cases.

Sharif
acquitted of hijacking charges
The Supreme Court Friday
acquitted former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of charges of hijacking in
1999 a commercial plane that was carrying the then army chief Gen.
Pervez Musharraf. The judgement clears for Sharif almost all hurdles in
his participation in electoral politics that will have far-reaching
implications in national politics.

Chandrayaan
develops snag, rectified
Bangalore, July 17
ISRO today said that all primary
mission objectives of Chandrayaan-1 had been successfully realised
during the eight months of its operation. “The spacecraft continues to
send high-quality data as per planned sequence to its ground station at
Byalalu near Bangalore. A detailed review of the scientific objectives
and the performance results of the Chandrayaan-1 mission is scheduled
within three months after which further operational procedures will be
worked out,” ISRO said in a statement here today.
