Report cases to govt facility, pvt hospitals told
New Delhi, August 4
Rattled by the death of 14-year-old Reeda Sheikh, a Pune girl, who died
of swine flu yesterday, following wrong treatment, the government today
asked all private health facilities to report suspected Influenza A H1N1
cases to the government system, which alone is currently equipped to
test and treat cases.

M’rashtra invokes Epidemic Act in 2 districts
Mumbai, August 4
A day after a teenaged girl in Pune
died of swine flu, the Maharashtra government declared the districts of
Pune and Satara epidemic-hit. "The Maharashtra government has
invoked the Epidemic Diseases Act in the two districts," Health
Minister Rajendra Shingane told reporters here.
Parliament clears landmark Education Bill

Sixty-two years after Independence, India today formally committed
itself to providing free and compulsory elementary education to children
aged 6 to 14 years, with the Lok Sabha passing the Right of Children to
free and Compulsory Education Bill, 2009.
No takers for machine detecting fake currency
Chandigarh, August 4
There is a machine to detect counterfeit currency. But it is not
available in the market. While scientists at the Central Scientific
Instruments Organisation (CSIO) not only developed an Automatic
Counterfeit Currency Detector (ACCD) and secured international patents,
for yet unknown reasons nobody has come forward to manufacture and
market it commercially.

flaunts forensic evidence against ex-CM

Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal
today claimed that the Central Forensic Laboratory at Chandigarh had
authenticated the voice in the controversial CD as that of the present
Union Minister of Steel, Virbhadra Singh, even as the Vigilance and
Anti-Corruption Bureau registered an FIR against the former CM and his
wife, among other people, under section 13 of the Prevention of
Corruption Act.
