Delhi HC grants bail to Kulkarni, 5 others

The Delhi High Court today granted bail to six persons accused in the cash-for-vote scam, observing that they appeared to have participated only in a sting operation as there was no prima facie evidence to show that bribe was demanded and paid.

Rare Sikh memorabilia to go under hammer in UK today
A controversial 1854 memorandum to Maharaja Dalip Singh that tells of his duties as a Christian, including the need to nominate a Christian heir, is being offered for auction tomorrow (Thursday)  in the UK. The author of the hand written memorandum is Sir John Spencer Login, who was appointed by the East India Company as guardian to the young and inexperienced heir of Ranjit Singh, shortly after he was deposed by the British in 1849.

Reveal names of top 100 loan defaulters, RBI told

The Central Information Commission has directed the Reserve Bank of India to reveal the names and other details of the top 100 industrialists of the country, who have defaulted on loans from public sector banks.

Cabinet nod to 26% FDI in pension funds

The Union Cabinet today approved amendments to the Pension Fund Regulatory Development Authority (PFRDA) Bill-2011 allowing 26 per cent foreign investment in the pension sector. The Bill with the amendments would be brought before Parliament during the forthcoming winter session.

Manu Sharma gets five-day parole for brother’s wedding

The Delhi High Court today granted five days parole to Manu Sharma, serving life term in Tihar Jail for killing model Jessica Lall in 1999, on the condition that he will not visit night clubs or discotheques during the period.

Actress Aishwarya Rai gave birth to a baby girl at the Seven Hills Hospital in suburban Mumbai early this morning. According to a bulletin put out by the hospital, the delivery was normal and came a few minutes before 10 am.
