Ambala, December

The Haryana Power Engineers’ Association has decided to take part in the proposed demonstration by the All India Power Engineers’ Federation at New Delhi on December 8.

At its meeting, the executive committee opposed the concept of multiple supply licensees to segregate carriage and content in the power distribution sector. In the proposed amendment, there will be one distribution company that will be responsible for maintaining the distribution network. Besides, there will be several supply licensees. It demanded a thorough review of the Electricity Act, 2003, before amending it. The association will also hold regional meetings at circle headquarters to mobilise engineers for the rally.

The association earlier held a meeting with Rajan Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary, and apprised him of the problems engineers had been facing for so many years. Gupta assured the delegates that restructuring of discoms would be undertaken to streamline the workload of sub-divisions and divisions. Engineers would be recruited on the basis of merit.

The delegation was also assured that pay anomaly of the assistant engineers would be resolved and the matter would be taken up with the board of directors.
