Chandigarh, December 31
While Regional Disease Diagnostic Laboratory had tested reports of all birds, including poultry, negative for avian influenza, death of three crows on the premises of Kalagram early this morning has further made city residents scared.
The carcasses of crows were noticed under a tree by a servant this morning who subsequently informed Jasjeet Jassi, manager of North Zone Culture Centre, Chandigarh.
Taking the death normal, the carcasses were dumped in a forest area adjacent to the Kalagram without intimating officials of the Wildlife and Animal Husbandry Departments. Jassi claimed that similar deaths were reported in summer and rainy seasons earlier also. “We are keeping a close watch on the mortality rate. If there are more deaths, we will inform officials concerned,” said Jassi. — TNS
