AMRITSAR: A 12-year-old girl student was crushed to death while three others sustained serious injuries when speeding car, driven by a tipsy driver, hit their vehicles on the Amritsar-Tarn Taran bypass road, here in the evening today.

A 12-year-old girl student was crushed to death while three others sustained serious injuries when speeding car, driven by a tipsy driver, hit their vehicles on the Amritsar-Tarn Taran bypass road, here in the evening today.

The deceased was identified as Gurpreet Kaur while the injured include Harshdeep Singh and Harmeet Singh. Their third accomplice was yet to be identified.

Madan Singh, in charge, Sultanwind police chowki, said the victims were returning home from their tuitions. The incident occurred near Guru Ram Das Old Age Home, located few metres away from the Sultanwind police chowki. The victims were on their two-wheelers. The injured were admitted to the local Civil Hospital.

Madan Singh said the car were being driven by Pahuldeep Singh and Robindeep Singh was in the co-driver seat. Both belong to Rataul village in Tarn Taran. They were going towards their native place. Both were in inebriated position.

The eyewitnesses called 108-ambulance, which failed to reach the spot, even after half-an-hour. They later shifted the victims to the Civil Hospital on their vehicles, where doctors declared Gurpreet brought dead.

Madan Singh said the driver and his accoomplice had been arrested. A case would be registered against them after recording the statements of the victims, he added.
