BATHINDA: Owing to the heavy rush of passengers and tourists during the ongoing vacation season, the Northern Railways has decided to start one-direction 04604 Ferozepur-Patna Special Express train from May 30.



BATHINDA: Owing to the heavy rush of passengers and tourists during the ongoing vacation season, the Northern Railways has decided to start one-direction 04604 Ferozepur-Patna Special Express train from May 30. The train will depart from Ferozepur at 1.35 pm and make halts at Faridkot, Kotkapura, Bathinda, Jakhal, Jind, Rohtak, Shakurbasti, Delhi Safdarjung, Ghaziabad and other stations before reaching Patna at 5 pm the next day. Man shot dead, 3 booked

Barnala: Paramjit Singh (42) was shot dead by his friends on Saturday night near Baba Kala Mehar Stadium. The police have booked three persons and started an investigation. As per information shared by Barnala (City) SHO Gurvir Singh, deceased Paramjit Singh, who worked in a welding shop, was consuming liquor with three other friends — Ajit Pal, Jarnail Singh and Suresh Singh — in front of the stadium on Saturday night. He had heated arguments with the accused over some minor issue. “Ajit Pal fired four shots at Paramjit. Two bullets hit him in the back, one in stomach while the fourth hit him near the chest. On the statement of Sukhwinder Singh, son of the deceased, we have registered a case against the accused and are conducting raids to arrest them,” the SHO said. After post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family of the deceased. TNS

One dies in road accident

Malout: A man lost his life and two others were injured in two road mishaps in Malout sub-division in the past 24 hours. Sandeep Kumar (25), a resident of Arniwala, was on way to town when he lost control over his motorcycle and rammed it into a tree along the roadside. The deceased was reportedly not wearing a helmet. He was working as an assistant to a private medical practitioner in Malout. TNS

Investiture ceremony held  

Bathinda: Student council members of Gems Public School were sworn in at an investiture ceremony for the session 2018-19. After the traditional lighting of the lamp, a welcome song was sung for the guests and parents. Bathinda DSP Gurpreet Singh was present as the chief guest. A dance rendition by the school dance team added colour to the event. A total of 19 new members were given their respective sashes and listed  responsibilities. Principal Anju Nagpal told the students that by investing these responsibilities the school has provided them an opportunity to imbibe the true qualities of leadership that can help them blossom as global citizens.  TNS

Blood donation drive held 

Bathinda: The two-day annual blood donation camp was organised at the Guru Gobind Singh Refinery, Bathinda, in association with Blood Bank, Civil Hospital, Bhatinda. The camp saw a good response from HMEL employees, contractors and other staff members, which helped in collecting more than 202 units of blood. Dr Myank Jot Singh, assistant blood transfusion officer, Civil Hospital, along with his team supervised the camp. Donors were given donor cards, refreshments and a certificate of appreciation for their service to humanity. TNS

BBA students shine in exam

Bathinda: Students of BBA 3rd year, 5th semester have brought laurels to Malwa College by securing 100 per cent pass percentage as per the results declared by Punjabi University, Patiala. Nirmaljit Kaur topped the college securing 82.5 per cent marks. Parchinderpal Kaur bagged the second position by obtaining 82.3 per cent marks and Anjali Arora got the third position by obtaining 82.1 per cent marks. Principal NK Gosain congratulated the students and staff on the occasion. College management congratulated head of department Dr Rupinder Kaur Sidhu and staff for the excellent results and announced scholarships for the brilliant students. TNS

47-gm heroin recovered

Bathinda: The district police seized 47 gms of heroin from three locations on Saturday. In the first case, the Dayalpura police recovered 22 gms of heroin and arrested two persons. In another case, 20 gms of heroin was recovered from a person near the Blazing Star marriage palace. The police also recovered 5 gms of heroin and arrested a person near the Sirhind canal. — TNS
