After installing LEDs at 74 railway stations falling in the Ambala division, the Electrical Engineering Department of the Indian Railways is all set to swap conventional tube lights with LED lights at 13,800 railway quarters and houses falling in the division.

The proposal and the estimate cost of the project has been sent to the ministry for further approval and the work will be completed by the end of June next year.

Sunil Kumar Sharma, Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer, said no money would be charged from the residents. “A deal has been made. According to it, the company which will instal the LED lights will take some per cent of the electricity bills from the department. The installing of LED lights will be done in a phased manner,” he said.

He said the experiment of introducing LED lights at railway stations was successful and it saved a lot of money for the department.

“There has been a saving in crore of rupees after the LED lights were installed at railway stations. So, it was decided to replace the old bulbs and tube lights with new LED lights. The project will start next year and it will complete in June,” said Sunil Kumar.

He said of 129, LEDs lights have been installed at 74 railway stations, while the work was in progress at remaining stations.
