The nation has great hopes and expectations from the young professionals for surging ahead into a new India. This was stated by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur while addressing the 2nd convocation of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) at Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur district on Friday.

He said the institute might have some limitations regarding infrastructure, but there was no dearth of talent. He urged the passing-out students to act as ambassadors of the state whenever the opportunity comes their way and serve the state when given an opportunity.

The CM said the students should always remember the sacrifice of their parents for providing them an opportunity to study in one of the best institutes of the country. He said teachers were the real architect of future and they should show utmost respect towards them. He also urged the students to uphold their culture and traditions. Later, he presented medals to meritorious students. Padmanabh Adhikari was awarded the Director’s gold medal while Somaya Depdass was awarded as the best all-round student award. The Director Special Recognition award was given to Arushi Singh.

Chairman, Governing Council, IIM, Sirmaur, Ajay S Sriram said 35 students had graduated from the institute which was in its initial stage and despite this it had created a niche for itself among the premier institutions of the country.

Dr Neelu Rohmetra, Director, IIM, while presenting the Director’s Report said the institute was committed to producing professionals who could meet global challenges. The institute was providing quality education to students through highly qualified faculty and some of the best brains in the industry as guest faculty, Rohmetra added.
