Nearly 100 players of the Handball Academy, Narwana — many of whom have played at the national and international level —  were asked to serve water at BJP’s “Gaurav rally” here today.

Fourty-six of these players have represented India at international events, including the South Asian Games at Guwahati this year, the Asian Handball Championship in South Korea and the international handball meet in Sweden, said sources.

The players, many of them state awardees,  had to skip their morning training session at the academy to serve water and collect empty glasses at the venue.

One of them said: “Told to serve water, we reached the venue much before the start of the rally. And we did a good job.” Another player said the venue was divided into various blocks and 10 players were deployed in every block.

Jugminder Singh, District Sports Officer and office-bearer of the State Handball Association, said: “Our Chief Minister and Sports Minister were here. So, it was decided the players would serve water, which is a noble deed. It’s a matter of pride for us that our players served water to 50,000 people."
