Faridkot, November 20
The arrest of 10 protesters from Sarawan village for showing black flags to Sukhbir Badal on November 17 has landed the Faridkot police in an awkward situation.
Demanding the unconditional release of the arrested persons, residents of many villages and the family of deceased Gurjeet Singh of Sarawan joined hands today.
Gurjeet Singh was one of the two killed in police firing on October 14 at Behbal Kalan.
In a memorandum submitted to Deputy Commissioner Faridkot today, the family members and relatives of Gurjeet Singh threatened to immolate themselves in front of the DC office on November 21 if the arrested persons were not released unconditionally.
“The police act of arresting peaceful protesters during Sukhbir Badal’s visit to our house on November 17 at Sarawan was unjustified and insulting to us. Arresting those who supported us over the past month is highly deplorable, said Sadhu Singh, Gurjeet’s father.
After 33 days of the deaths of Gurjeet Singh of Sarawan and Bhagwan Krishan Singh of Niamiwala in police firing, Sukhbir visited these families on November 17.
