Remote Nelang valley to be thrown open to tourists today

The Nelang valley situated on the remote border district of Uttarkashi which is famous for its historical trade route to China will be opened for the tourists interested in eco-tourism from May 12.

The forest and sports minister Dinesh Agrwal in order to promote eco-tourism in the remote area of the state that has remained untamed tourism wise will flag off around eight vehicles as part of safari adventure from Bahiron ghati on May 12.

Excited forest and sports minister Dinesh Agarwal said that around eight tourist vehicles have been provided inline permits so that they can enjoy the pristine beauty of the Helang valley in Uttarkashi district during their safari tour here. The minister will also accompany

the safari tour vehicles for some distance as part of eco-tourism promotion.

The Nelang valley has always been an adventurist’s delight as it has been linked with the historical trade routes that were part of the ancient passageways to Tibet.

According to Tilak Soni, the owner of adventure tour and travel agency called “Where Eagles Dare,” who returned recently from Nelang valley safari tour, said that the valley is a delight for any adventure enthusiast in terms of pristine beauty and natural landscape.

Tilak Soni further said that several explorers in the past have used the route to reach Tibet.

Several other mountaineers have attempted to cross the Arwa Col from Alaknanda valley into Nelang valley in the past attracted by it’s natural landscape that is not to be found anywhere in the district, added Tilak Soni. He further said that majestic mountains greet the tourists opting for the safari tour in Nelang valley. The forest department is giving out inline permits for the adventure enthusiasts although in limited numbers, but the experience

for them would be a memorable one, said a tourist who returned recently form the safari tour.

The valley is also filled with mythological tales that are popular among the local population living here, said Soni.
